Volunteer Openings
Unless otherwise stated
in the individual descriptions below, the following is true for all volunteer positions. We prefer volunteers who come one of our
offices (
Data Entry on Computer. This involves up-dating or entering new
records of donors and program participants.
May also help mail-merge thank-you letters. Requires a little more time in Nov/Dec. and May/June
following the twice-a-year mailings.
General office work preparing
mailings, assembling packets of literature, marking forms, filing, etc. Position open at both offices; however, need
is greatest at
Stock Room Assistant for the Free
Telephone Equipment Distribution program.
Involves receiving and verifying shipments of telephone equipment,
stacking boxes of different telephones in appropriate areas, listing, packing
and shipping returns, and related tasks.
Appointment Secretary. Involves explaining eligibility requirements
and setting appointments over the telephone.
Requires clearly enunciated speaking voice, ability to hear well over
the telephone, and patience in order to repeat complicated directions for those
having difficulty hearing over the phone.
eBay Sales Assistant. Help obtain and keep track of auction donated
items. Enter information in the eBay
auction system. Monitor sales and
determine when actions are needed to answer bidder questions, ship items, and
send feedback.
Computer Maintenance Assistant. Must have some computer knowledge. Involves keeping computers up-to-date with
software up-grades, deleting temporary files, defragging hard drives, and
solving minor problems. Position open at
both offices; however, need is greatest at
Audiology Technician. Help with hearing aid recipients, especially
indigent persons who qualify for free, recycled BTE hearing aids. Must have experience in the office of an ENT
physician, audiologist, or hearing aid dispenser. Involves cleaning and testing used hearing
aids; testing and installing batteries, explaining hearing aid accessories such
as cleaning tools and drying procedures.
Hearing Screener. Conduct community hearing screenings to
determine whether or not a person has hearing loss and needs a full hearing
test. Involves use of a screening
machine. Prior experience in a field of
personal care such as nursing very helpful.
Appointment Secretary. Involves setting appointments over the
telephone for hearing tests and hearing aid fittings. Requires clearly enunciated speaking voice,
ability to hear well over the telephone, and patience in order to communicate
with persons who have difficulty hearing.
Familiarity with hearing aids or hearing issues helpful but not
required.
Translator. Help translate brochures, instructions,
questionnaires, etc. from English into Spanish.
Some work can be done at home.
Helpful to tackle some other volunteer roles temporarily to fully
understand the English text in our materials.
Could also do verbal translations if qualified and comfortable doing
