Silent
Auction Online Again
Our past Online
Silent Auctions have been a win/win deal that was good for us, for you the
bidder and for the businesses who donated the items. So we are doing it again, only bigger and
better this time!
The bidding will
begin on Friday, November 4 and end
on Sunday, November 13. If you want to
bid, you will need to register with eBay.
It takes about ten minutes and then you can shop eBay anytime. They really do have millions of things
for sale at any given moment.
To create your
own eBay account, you must already have an email address. If you have one, go to www.ebay.com and click on “register” at the top
of the page.
Fill in the form with your name,
address and so forth. You will need to
“create” a name that will be your bidder name and it will need a password as
well. Also, you may need to provide a
credit card number and the mailing address for that card. As part of the sign-up process, you need to
receive and answer an email, so it is best to sign-up from your computer,
rather than at our office.
However, if you need help, we
will be scheduling appointments to help people open eBay accounts between now
and the end of bidding. Just call for an
appointment at 802-3353 (Voice) or 802-3351 (TTY).
How to Find Our Items to Bid On
Once you have an account, sign in and click on the MY
EBAY tab at the top of the first page.
On that screen on the lower left side, you should see a list of “All
Favorites.” Click on
“Sellers.” On the next screen,
about in the middle left is a box to enter the Seller’s ID. Type in “deafservicectr” and press
enter. The last step will be to click on
the box at the bottom that says “Add to My Favorite Sellers.”
After you have done the above the first time -- and when you come back in the future
and go to MY EBAY and then to Favorite Sellers, you will come immediately to a
page with our name (any other favorites you add in the future). Click on our name and you will see everything
we have for sale. If you try it now, you
may find two or three things for sale.
Between the big announced auctions, we are selling things on eBay that
we have multiples of -- such as our wonderful cookbook. Feel free to bid now if you wish.
As a reminder, when you bid, eBay
only announces the amount you needed to meet the minimum bid or to be just
above the last bid by someone else. But
it remembers that you are willing to go higher (if you had bid higher) and it
will bid more for you later up to your limit, if needed, to fight off another
person’s bid.
You will want to go back later to
see if you are still the high bidder.
You will also get emails from eBay warning you that bidding is nearing
the end and telling you if you have been outbid. You can even set up on your “My eBay” page to
list or “watch” items that you are interested in bidding on. Happy bidding.
